Dall’idea al bozzetto, fino al fitting finale: cosa succede quando crei un abito con noi

From idea to sketch, to final fitting: what happens when you create a dress with us?

There are clothes you buy. And then there are clothes you make, together.

Almost always, with us, everything starts very simply: with a phone call.

Often, you arrive through word of mouth. Someone told you about us, how they felt, what the process was like, what it felt like to put on their finished dress. Then you call. And in that first call, something important happens: we start to get to know each other, and you begin to understand who's on the other end. Even from their voice.

It's a small but crucial step. Because a custom-made suit isn't just an aesthetic project: it's a relationship of trust.

The first phone call: three questions, one direction

In the first contact I always ask you three fundamental questions.

The first is the date of the event, because timing in tailoring is part of quality.

The second is a question about you, your way of being, your style, your energy.

The third is about what you imagine: not a perfect, pre-defined model, but an idea, a feeling, a desire.

The project begins here.

After the call, I'll ask you to send me some reference images. Not to copy, but to understand the language that moves you: lines, volumes, atmospheres, details. Then we'll schedule an appointment in the studio, usually about a week apart.

That week, for me, is already real work.

The Invisible Week: When Your Dress Already Exists, Even If You Can't See It

While you wait to come to the atelier, the project takes shape.

I start drawing. I translate what we've discussed into sketches, studying proportions, balance, and real-world possibilities. Every line has a purpose: it's not "just beautiful," it has to work on your body and your day.

Then I consult with Anna, the pattern maker. Together, we evaluate the pattern development, technical feasibility, the necessary processes, and the best construction to achieve the result you envision, without hidden compromises.

I also research fabrics. Often, for custom-made pieces, I purchase specific materials from scratch, allowing me to accurately craft the project: fabric feel, yield, availability, price, and samples to show you in the studio.

Because choosing the right fabric isn't a minor detail: it's one of the decisions that determines the comfort, durability, and presence of the garment.

This part is invisible, but it is the heart of the difference between a “tailored” garment and a garment that is truly yours.

The ddLab estimate: transparency, page after page

When we meet in the studio, you don't find a number written at the bottom of a sheet of paper. You find a clear path.

I always prepare a very detailed quote, usually 6 or 7 pages. It includes your initial request, the process for completing the project, the number of canvas tests, the sketch, technical information on pattern placement and workmanship, fabric options, costs, delivery times, and payment terms and methods.

For me, transparency is care.

Understanding in advance how we'll work, what's included, and why a choice impacts the outcome allows you to make a decision with peace of mind, without any gray areas.

In the studio, I'll explain each part of the estimate to you calmly, answer every question, and if necessary, we'll modify the design. It's a real discussion, not a "closed" presentation.

The meeting in the atelier: when the project truly becomes yours

This is the moment when we look into each other's eyes and the work takes shape.

It often happens that a detail changes right there: a line needs to be lightened, a length needs to be rethought, a neckline needs to be more harmonious with you. It's normal, and it's beautiful. Made-to-measure is alive, not rigid.

If at that moment you feel confident and decide to entrust yourself to us, the most exciting phase begins: seeing your dress truly come to life. From idea to form, from form to reality. Fitting after fitting, centimeter after centimeter.

And here comes the most magical, fun, and powerful part: when you're no longer imagining your dress. You're wearing it as it comes to life.

From sketch to final fitting: the tangible magic of bespoke tailoring.

The final fitting is not just the “last test”.

It's the point where everything comes together: the initial idea, the technical choices, the right fabric, the details designed for you.

When a dress is well-made, you feel it immediately. You don't have to adjust it every two minutes. You don't have to wonder if it will hold up. You don't have to interpret it. It accompanies you. It represents you. It leaves you free.

And in that moment you understand why bespoke isn't a noisy luxury. It's a gentle luxury: time, attention, listening, precision.

It's a dress that doesn't try to change you. It gives you back.

Why do those who experience this process enjoy it so much?

Because it's clear. Because it's human. Because you're never left alone when faced with an important decision.

You always know where we are, what we're doing, why we're doing it, and how we'll get there.

And above all because you feel that your dress is not born from a standard model, but from your history, your body, your way of being.

This, for us, is the true meaning of working in the atelier.

If you want to start too

It can really all start with one call.

You tell me your date, who you are, and what you envision. From there, we'll build the rest, with transparency and care, step by step.

And then comes the most beautiful moment: when your dress takes shape before you.
